KEPULUAN SERIBU, JAKTIMES.COM- Oil spills again pollute the waters of the Kepulauan Seribu. This time, the oil spill occurred along the coast of Kelapa Island, the northern part of the Kepulauan Seribu.
Dark black crude oil contamination or what local residents can call it, has polluted the area along the coast on the road connecting Kelapa Island to the shallow waters of Harapan Island.
The village head of Kelapa Island Muslim explained that the oil spill even stuck to the mangrove trees, thereby reducing the beauty of the beach.
“I beg the oil company or whoever is responsible, to be more careful and check and monitor frequently if there are tools that are not suitable for use or have leaks, so that contamination that occurs is immediately addressed,” said Muslim. Wednesday (02/11/2022).
Muslims hope that the spill of crude oil in the form of black tar should not be left for too long, because it will have a negative impact on the environment and marine life around the waters of Kelapa Island, and even threaten the fish farming activities of fishermen.
“Together with other institutions, we strongly request that cleaning and packing be carried out. This pollution threatens the survival of marine life and harms the activities of residents, most of whom are fishermen,” he said.
Muslim also suggested that the responsible parties should immediately hold a meeting with stakeholders in Kelapa Island and Harapan Island Villages. The meeting is important, because it directly has an impact on tourism activities on the two islands.
“If the environment is dirty, especially on the beach and the sea. It really has an impact on tourism activities. We both know,” he said.
Muslim added, “Tourism in the Kepulauan Seribu is sold for the natural beauty of the sea, so if it is dirty with crude oil pollution, it is very detrimental.” (Jekson Simanjuntak)
