Strengthening Defense, Indonesia and Russia Exploring Combat Jet Production Cooperation

JAKARTA, JAKTIMES.COM- Indonesia and Russia are exploring opportunities for cooperation in the production of the Yak-130 fighter jet.

To realize the cooperation plan, Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko held a meeting with the Russian company, Irkut Corporation and PT Dirgantara Indonesia at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Thursday (11/3/2022).

According to Moeldoko, the government is always open to cooperation opportunities offered by foreign partners to Indonesia, including in the defense sector.

“Referring to the needs of the defense sector, the Presidential Staff Office supports and is ready to bridge the framework of cooperation that will be explored, later the end of the assessment will be in the policy of the Ministry of Defense,” said Moeldoko in a meeting as quoted from a press release, Friday (11/5/2022). ).

He said the purpose of the hearing between KSP, PT Dirgantara Indonesia and Irkut Corporation was to explore the potential and opportunities for cooperation in the production of the Yak-130 fighter jet.

Moeldoko said the Yak-130 fighter jet has a good reputation because of its advantages. In addition to its lighter weight than other fighter jets, the Yak-130 also has a good control system and high resistance.

“Yak-130 is a good prototype for our air force and it is very possible to explore this in collaboration with PT. Indonesian Aerospace,” he explained.

“Moreover, there is an opportunity that the Yak-130 market is not only in Indonesia, but can be projected to the ASEAN market as well,” added Moeldoko.

Previously, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) reminded Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto to cooperate in the defense sector with other state companies.

Jokowi conveyed this after the Indo Defense 2022 Expo and Forum exhibition at the Jakarta International Expo Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (2/11/2022).

On this occasion, Jokowi witnessed a number of demonstrations of products of the main weapon system equipment (defense equipment) from within the country displayed by TNI soldiers.

“I see that it is good for promotion, especially for defense and security equipment products. And also the most important thing is that I conveyed to the Minister of Defense the importance of our cooperation with companies from other countries,” Jokowi explained to reporters, Wednesday (2/11/2022).

He said that global developments must be addressed by the domestic defense industry. Moreover, the indications of defense budgets in the Middle East and East Asian NATO countries tend to rise very drastically.

“There is an indication that the defense budget in NATO countries in the Middle East and also in East Asia has a very drastic upward trend and the emergence of new military technologies we also need to follow together,” he said (ATN/JAKTIMES)
