Despite Rejection, the House of Representatives Still Approves the Ciptaker Perppu to Become Law

JAKARTA, JAKTIMES.COM- Despite receiving a lot of rejection from the public, the the House of Representatives of Indonesia (DPR-RI) still approved Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) Number 2 of 2022 concerning Job Creation (Ciptaker) to become law (UU) at the DPR Plenary Meeting in Jakarta, Tuesday (21/3).

“We will ask again all participants in the session, can the draft law regarding the stipulation of Government Regulation in Lieu of Law Number 2 of 2022 concerning Job Creation become law be approved to be passed into law?” asked the Chairperson of the DPR RI Puan Maharani to all participants in the plenary meeting.
“Agreed,” answered the member of DPR participating in the 19th Plenary Meeting of the DPR RI Session Period IV for Session Year 2022-2023.

On that occasion, the Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said that the existence of the Job Creation Law needed to be maintained by the government, especially in the midst of an economic situation that was hit by uncertainty.

Various derivatives of the Job Creation Law have become programs and policies that accelerate economic recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic. he said.

However, two of the nine factions of the DPR, namely the Democratic Party and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), stated that they refused to make the Perppu into law.

Previously, at the Plenary Meeting of the Legislative Body of the DPR RI on Wednesday (15/2/2023) agreed to bring the Perppu on Job Creation to be brought to a plenary meeting so that it could then be passed into law

As is well known, a wave of rejection of the Perppu Ciptaker from the public, especially workers and students, has colored the democratic actions at the DPR-RI Building in recent months (Ant/TC)
