BALI, JAKTIMES.COM – Indonesia has invited ASEAN member states to address the digital divide in the region. Despite the ongoing adoption of the latest generation technologies throughout the area, a digital divide still persists.
Mira Tayyiba, the Secretary-General of the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information, emphasized the need for collaboration in developing regulatory frameworks and initiatives for affordable and widespread broadband access. “By promoting investment in the spread of digital infrastructure to underserved regions and providing incentives for private sector participation, ASEAN member states can ensure that the benefits of the digital revolution can reach all segments of society, empower marginalized communities, and drive inclusive growth,” she explained during the opening of the 29th ASEAN Telecommunications Regulators’ Council (ATRC) Meeting in Badung, Bali, on Wednesday (23/08/2023).
According to Secretary-General Mira Tayyiba, who chairs the 29th ATRC, the development of telecommunications and ICT regulations in ASEAN holds the key to unlocking the potential of this region in the digital era. “By embracing innovation, promoting inclusivity, ensuring security, and fostering collaboration, ASEAN has the potential to pave the way towards a prosperous future marked by strong connectivity,” she emphasized.
Therefore, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Communication and Information encourages collaboration by aligning regulatory approaches, promoting cross-border cooperation, and sharing best practices. “Let’s harness the power of collaboration. With a shared vision of progress, the colorful and rich diversity among ASEAN member states is a strength,” she stated.
Initiatives like the ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2025 and the ATRC meeting, according to Secretary-General Mira Tayyiba, reflect the spirit of collaboration and create a platform for dialogue and joint action.
“We can leverage collective wisdom to navigate the complex digital regulatory landscape. As we stand on the brink of unprecedented technological opportunities, it is important to remember that the foundation we build today will determine the direction of ASEAN’s digital progress in the future,” she concluded.
The 29th ASEAN Telecommunications Regulators’ Council (ATRC) Meeting was attended by delegations from ASEAN member states, representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat, and the Director of the ASEAN ICT Centre (AICTC).
