RIYADH, JAKTIMES.COM – President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), strongly condemns the acts of violence that have occurred in Gaza, Palestine, which have resulted in suffering and the loss of civilian lives.
“Indonesia strongly condemns the acts of violence in Gaza because they have caused suffering and an increasing number of civilian casualties, including women and children,” the President expressed in his statement while on a working visit to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
In addition, Indonesia condemns Israel’s attack on Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital, which constitutes a violation of international humanitarian law.
The President has also instructed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi, to attend an extraordinary meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah and to continue efforts to evacuate Indonesian citizens (WNI) who are still facing difficulties due to the situation on the ground.
“Indonesia will not remain silent while civilian casualties continue to mount, while injustice against the Palestinian people continues. Together with the OIC, Indonesia is sending a strong message to the world to stop the escalation, to cease the use of violence, to focus on humanitarian issues, and to address the root problem, which is the Israeli occupation of Palestine,” he stated, as quoted from his press release on Mediajakarta.com.
The President calls upon world leaders to build global solidarity to resolve the Palestinian issue fairly and to adhere to the international parameters that have been agreed upon.
“Indonesia will continue to voice this at various opportunities and international forums, including during bilateral discussions with the Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia and at the ASEAN-GCC Summit tomorrow,” he concluded (Marwan Azis).
