JAKARTA, JAKTIMES.COM – The Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals Association (ICMI) organized a festive Eid al-Adha celebration through the nationwide slaughtering of sacrificial cows and goats.
This year, a total of 32 cows and 32 goats were slaughtered from 17 provinces, with the central ceremony held at the ICMI National Central Assembly Office (MPP) or ICMI Center, located on Warung Buncit Street, South Jakarta, on June 17, 2024. This data is preliminary and does not yet include figures from city and district levels. At the MPP ICMI Office itself, 4 cows and 9 goats were slaughtered.
In his report as the Chairman of the ICMI Eid al-Adha Celebration Committee, Rhesa Yogaswara, stated that 17 provinces participated in this year’s sacrificial event, resulting in the slaughtering of 32 cows and 32 goats.
“This is largely an initiative of the ICMI National Central Assembly (MPP), centered in DKI Jakarta, and the DKI Jakarta Regional Council (Orda),” said Rhesa, who is also the Chairman of ICMI South Jakarta (Jaksel).
He mentioned that the ICMI Eid al-Adha Celebration is expected to bring blessings and elevate ICMI, which continually strives to benefit the community.
Similar sentiments were expressed by Ali Hamza, Secretary of ICMI DKI Jakarta. According to him, ICMI’s festive Eid al-Adha celebration is a duty for those who are capable, initially targeting the slaughtering of 40 cows and 100 goats nationwide. However, the realized numbers were 32 cows and 32 goats from 17 confirmed ICMI Regional Councils (Orda). “I am confident the actual numbers are higher,” he stated.
He noted that the act of sacrifice symbolizes the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail.
On this occasion, Ali also expressed gratitude to MPP ICMI for appointing ICMI DKI Jakarta as the organizing committee for this year’s Eid al-Adha Celebration and acknowledged the committee’s best efforts in conducting the sacrificial event.
“I express my gratitude to the organizing committee of this year’s Eid al-Adha and to all regional committees that carried out the slaughtering. May Allah SWT grant His approval in accordance with our intentions,” he hoped.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of MPP ICMI, represented by Prof. Teuku Abdullah Sani, expressed his joy that ICMI could celebrate Eid al-Adha not only nationally but also internationally, following the example of Prophet Ibrahim’s sacrifice when commanded to slaughter his son Ismail.
“ICMI will continue this annually, and may Allah always bless us all,” he hoped.
He added that the sacrificial meat will be distributed to the poor and needy.
The slaughtering ceremony at the MPP ICMI Office or ICMI Center in Jakarta was marked by the symbolic handover from MPP ICMI Chairman Prof. Sani to the Organizing Committee, Rhesa Yogaswara, followed by the slaughtering of cows and goats (Wan)
