JAKARTA, JAKTIMES.COM – The long-awaited question surrounding Persija Jakarta’s head coach position has finally been answered. The Kemayoran Tigers have officially appointed Shin Tae-yong as their new manager for the 2026/2027 season.
The arrival of Shin Tae-yong marks the beginning of a new chapter for Persija. The Jakarta-based club hopes that the man who helped Indonesia achieve several historic milestones can lead the team back to success and build a strong winning culture.
Persija’s decision was far from arbitrary. Shin’s impressive track record at both club and international levels played a key role in convincing the club’s management.
At club level, the South Korean tactician made history by guiding Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma to the 2010 AFC Champions League title and the 2011 Korean FA Cup trophy.
On the international stage, Shin became a household name in Indonesia after serving as head coach of the national team for five years. Under his leadership, the Garuda Squad achieved several historic milestones, including reaching the Round of 16 of the AFC Asian Cup 2023 for the first time ever and advancing to the third round of the AFC Asian Qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Beyond his achievements, Shin Tae-yong is also widely recognized for his ability to develop young talent. This aligns perfectly with Persija’s philosophy of consistently nurturing promising players and building a competitive team for the future.
Persija President Mohamad Prapanca emphasized that Shin Tae-yong is the ideal figure to support the club’s long-term vision. “Shin Tae-yong is a coach with the competence, experience, and vision that align with Persija’s direction. We chose someone who not only possesses strong technical and tactical qualities but also has the ability to build a winning mentality within the team,” said Prapanca.
He also called on all elements of the club, including the passionate Jakmania supporters, to unite and provide full support as Persija embarks on a challenging new season.
According to Prapanca, synergy between management, coaching staff, players, and supporters will be crucial in returning Persija to the top tier of Indonesian football.
Meanwhile, Shin Tae-yong admitted that he is already familiar with Persija. His years of experience coaching Indonesia have given him a deep understanding of the club and the country’s football culture.
“I coached the Indonesian national team for five years, so I know Persija quite well. In my opinion, Persija is one of the best teams in Indonesia,” Shin said.
The 56-year-old coach also underlined his ambition to achieve the best possible results with the club. He promised to build a team that fights relentlessly and plays attractive football. “My target is to achieve the best results possible. I will do everything I can so that Persija supporters can enjoy the team’s best performances. If the club, players, and supporters unite as one, we will show our strongest fighting spirit, a winning mentality, and a team willing to sacrifice for victory,” he stated.
Behind Shin’s arrival, Persija has also prepared a support system designed to ensure effective communication between the coaching staff, players, and management.
Today, a new sense of optimism is growing in Jakarta. Shin Tae-yong’s appointment is more than just a coaching change—it symbolizes the start of a new era for the Kemayoran Tigers as they seek to restore Persija’s glory in Indonesian football.
A new season, a new coach, and new dreams.
The question now is: Can Shin Tae-yong lead Persija back to the summit of Indonesian football?
