JAKARTA, JAKTIMES.COM – More than 20 Indonesian influencers, activists, and public figures have signed a powerful petition urging the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take urgent and decisive steps to end what they call a “war of extermination” in Gaza and open unrestricted humanitarian access.
Addressed to Foreign Minister Sugiono and Deputy Foreign Minister Anis Matta, the letter demands that Indonesia move beyond statements of condemnation and lead with concrete diplomatic, legal, and humanitarian measures on the regional and global stage.
“Silence and inaction in such times make one complicit,” the petition states, citing the mass starvation, deliberate killings, and destruction of civilian infrastructure in Gaza.
The petition highlights the grim toll: over 60,000 Palestinians killed, most of them women and children, and more than 100 civilians — including 80 children — dead from starvation due to the blockade. It also condemns Israel’s seizure of humanitarian ships Handala and Madelin in international waters and the bombing of the Conscience aid drone.
Key demands include:
-
Direct diplomatic pressure on the US and other arms suppliers to Israel to halt military support.
-
Urging Egypt and neighboring states to lift the Gaza blockade and allow free humanitarian access.
-
Public condemnation of starvation as a weapon of war.
-
Securing the release of detained humanitarian workers and the return of seized civilian aid vessels.
-
Supporting legal action against Israel at the ICJ and ICC, and joining the Hague Group to end impunity.
-
Mobilizing OIC and Arab/Islamic nations to cut ties and isolate Israel diplomatically.
The petition was signed by notable names including Michelle Santoso, Rebecca Reijman, Felix Y Siauw, Teuku Wisnu, Bella Fawzi, Wanda Hamidah, Inara Rusli, Melly Goeslaw, Asma Nadia, and Erick Yusuf, among others.
Organizers describe this as a “defining moment for global morality” and call on Indonesia to lead international efforts to stop the siege and killings in Gaza (Marwan Aziz).
