JAKARTA, JAKTIMES.COM — The Jakarta Provincial Government is accelerating its efforts to achieve its ambitious goal of entering the Top 50 Global Cities by 2030.
One of its key strategies is strengthening cooperation with the city of Berlin — a move welcomed by Alia Noorayu Laksono, Deputy Chair of Commission A of the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD).
The bilateral meeting between Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung and Berlin’s Governing Mayor Kai Wegner, held at Rotes Rathaus, Berlin, on Monday (Nov 24), is seen as an important milestone in positioning Jakarta as a world-class city.
“International Cooperation Is Essential, Jakarta Needs High-Level Benchmarks”
Alia stressed that Jakarta, now holding a special regional status equivalent to a capital, must adapt to high development standards. For this reason, she considers the Jakarta–Berlin collaboration a precise and timely decision.
“International cooperation is not only ideal but essential. Our benchmarks must be high — we cannot rely solely on domestic partnerships,” Alia said on Wednesday (Nov 26).
According to her, Jakarta must learn from other global cities to understand modern standards in transportation management, governance, and urban space development.
DPRD Reminder: It Shouldn’t Be Ceremonial — Real Impact Is Needed
While expressing full support, Alia reminded that international partnerships must translate into real outcomes, not stop at the signing of agreements.
“This is a good step, as long as it doesn’t end at ceremonial activities. There must be concrete implementation that benefits the public,” she emphasized.
She noted that the implementation of global-city concepts in Jakarta still needs strengthening, though the city’s current development direction is on the right track.
Three Key Areas of Jakarta–Berlin Collaboration
The meeting between Pramono Anung and Kai Wegner produced a reinforced cooperation framework in three strategic sectors:
- Smart Governance & Civic Engagement
Sharing knowledge on modern government management and public participation in policymaking. - Sustainable Mobility
Including public transport integration and the development of transit-oriented districts (TOD), which is already a major focus of Jakarta’s development. - Creative Economy
Through the Jakarta Future City Hub, aimed at fostering innovation and supporting emerging creative industry players.
2030 Target: A More Livable, Globally Competitive Jakarta
This cooperation forms part of a long-term strategy to improve public services, strengthen international collaboration, and transform Jakarta into a more livable city with strong global competitiveness.
With legislative support and partnerships with leading cities like Berlin, Jakarta hopes its ambition to join the Top 50 Global Cities by 2030 will not remain a dream — but become a realistic, achievable milestone (Wan)
