JAKARTA, JAKTIMES.COM — The Jakarta Provincial Government has officially granted the building of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) to the foundation, marking the completion of a long administrative process involving a historically significant asset.
The handover was carried out by Head of Jakarta’s National Unity and Politics Agency (Kesbangpol), Muhammad Matsani, to YLBHI Trustee Todung Mulya Lubis, and was witnessed directly by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung. The ceremony took place at the YLBHI Building on Jalan Diponegoro, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (December 18).
“I am present at the handover of the YLBHI building from the Jakarta Provincial Government to the YLBHI Foundation,” Pramono said in his remarks.
Pramono expressed his gratitude and happiness over the completion of the grant process for a building that holds an important place in the history of legal aid and democracy in Indonesia. With the official handover, the management of the land and building is now fully under YLBHI’s authority.
Nevertheless, Pramono emphasized that the Jakarta Provincial Government would continue to provide support, particularly in helping to complete the construction of the YLBHI building, which is still underway.
“But the key point is that we will be present to help complete this building,” Pramono stressed.
The Governor also reaffirmed his commitment to fostering a healthy democratic climate in Jakarta. According to him, the provincial government remains open to public oversight and criticism as part of accountable governance.
Pramono expressed hope that YLBHI would continue to serve as a driving force for democracy, voicing public concerns and advocating for the rights of marginalized communities.
“Because in any development process, there will always be those who are left behind—not everyone benefits equally,” he said.
He acknowledged that social inequality remains one of Jakarta’s biggest challenges. To address this issue, the Jakarta Provincial Government continues to roll out pro-people programs, including the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP), the Jakarta Excellent Student Card (KJMU), and diploma amnesty programs to help reduce social disparities.
“That is what we are doing, and I sincerely hope that issues like these will also remain a key concern for YLBHI,” Pramono concluded (Wan)
