JAKARTA, JAKTIMES.COM — Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has assured the public that fuel supplies in the capital remain safe and sufficient despite escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The Jakarta provincial government guarantees that fuel distribution across the city remains stable, so residents have no reason to worry.
Pramono made the statement in response to rising tensions between Iran and the United States as well as Israel, which could potentially affect global oil supply and prices.
“Regarding fuel, Jakarta is always a priority for stock availability, and we also have our own reserves,” Pramono said when speaking to reporters in Srengseng Sawah, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, on Friday (March 6).
According to him, the public does not need to make excessive purchases because fuel availability in Jakarta is guaranteed to be sufficient.
“I believe there will be no panic buying in Jakarta,” he stressed.
Pramono explained that the management and safeguarding of fuel stocks in Jakarta are carried out in coordination with the central government. With this system, energy distribution in the capital is expected to remain stable despite global uncertainties.
“All fuel stocks in Jakarta are managed together with the central government. They are not handled solely by the regional administration but jointly managed. That is why I am confident there will be no panic buying related to fuel,” he explained.
In addition to maintaining energy stability, fuel availability is also expected to support smooth mobility for residents ahead of the Eid al-Fitr homecoming travel season. However, Pramono jokingly encouraged residents to celebrate the holiday in Jakarta instead.
“Hopefully fuel supplies in Jakarta will be sufficient for those traveling home for Eid. Although I still encourage people to come to Jakarta for the holiday so the fuel isn’t used elsewhere,” he said with a smile (Wan)
