JAKARTA, JAKTIMES.COM— Three PSSI delegates assigned to interview candidates for the new Indonesia national team coach in Europe have now arrived back in Jakarta.
The confirmation was delivered by PSSI Vice Chairman Zainudin Amali on Thursday afternoon (Dec 4).
“I’ve been informed that they have returned to Jakarta, but I haven’t met them yet,” Amali said in a written message.
The three PSSI envoys were PSSI Technical Director Alexander Zwiers and two Executive Committee (Exco) members, Muhammad and Endri Erawan. They spent about a week in Europe conducting direct interviews with potential candidates to lead the Garuda squad.
Exco Meeting to Be Held Soon
PSSI Exco member Ahmad Riyadh stated that an official meeting to determine Indonesia’s new head coach will be held soon. However, the exact date has not yet been finalized.
“There will be an Exco Meeting shortly. The PSSI delegates have returned from Europe,” he said.
Previously, the Chairman of the PSSI National Team Agency (BTN), Sumardji, revealed that the list of candidates had been narrowed down to two names, though he declined to mention them publicly.
Rumors circulating in European—particularly British—media claim that the two leading candidates are Giovanni van Bronckhorst and John Herdman. Both are considered strong contenders due to their managerial experience and track records at club and national levels.
Awaiting the Final Decision
According to PSSI Statutes, the appointment of the new national team coach must be decided through an Exco Meeting. The two shortlisted candidates will be the main topic of discussion (Wan)
