JAKARTA, JAKTIMES.COM — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has expressed deep condolences over the passing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was reportedly killed in a military attack in early March 2026.
The news was conveyed by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya in a written statement issued in Jakarta on Wednesday (March 4). In his statement, he explained that President Prabowo personally wrote a letter of condolence addressed to the Iranian government.
“President Prabowo Subianto wrote a condolence letter over the passing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a military attack in early March 2026,” Teddy said.
According to him, the official letter was addressed to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian as a gesture of sympathy and respect from the Indonesian government for the passing of one of the most influential figures in Iran’s political life.
“The official letter expressing deep condolences over the passing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was addressed to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian,” he added.
As part of a diplomatic gesture, the letter was delivered directly by Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono to the Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, during a meeting in Jakarta.
The condolence message was conveyed ahead of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s funeral procession, which is scheduled to take place in Mashhad, one of the holiest cities and the second-largest city in Iran.
Through this gesture, the Indonesian government expressed its deep sympathy to the government and people of Iran over the loss of a leader who had significant influence on the country’s political trajectory.
