JAKARTA, JAKTIMES.COM – After the Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar (AMIN) pair registered in the morning, the presidential and vice-presidential candidates, Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud MD, also officially registered as participants in the 2024 Presidential Election at the General Election Commission (KPU) RI office in Jakarta on Thursday, October 19.
At approximately 1:10 PM local time, Ganjar-Mahfud symbolically submitted the registration requirements to KPU RI Chairman Hasyim Asy’ari in the main office of the KPU RI. The prospective candidate pair, Ganjar-Mahfud, entered the registration room accompanied by Megawati Soekarnoputri, the Chairperson of the PDI Perjuangan, Muhamad Mardiono, the Acting Chairperson of the PPP (Partai Persatuan Pembangunan), Hary Tanoesoedibjo, the Chairperson of the Partai Perindo, Oesman Sapta Odang (OSO), the Chairperson of the Partai Hanura, and the National Campaign Team (TPN) Chairman, Asrjad Raajid.
Ganjar-Mahfud became the second presidential and vice-presidential candidate pair to register as participants in the 2024 Presidential Election on the first day of registration, Thursday.
Before visiting the KPU, Ganjar-Mahfud greeted their supporters and delivered a speech at the Proclamation Monument in Jakarta.
The registration of prospective presidential and vice-presidential candidates is scheduled from October 19 to October 25, 2023.
Based on Law Number 7 of 2017 regarding Elections (UU Pemilu), presidential and vice-presidential candidate pairs are proposed by political parties or coalitions of political parties that participated in the previous parliamentary election and meet the requirement of holding at least 20 percent of the total seats in the DPR (People’s Consultative Assembly) or obtaining 25 percent of the valid votes nationwide in the previous DPR election.
As quoted from Jaktimes.com via Antara, there are currently 575 seats in parliament, meaning that presidential and vice-presidential candidate pairs for the 2024 Presidential Election must have the support of a minimum of 115 seats in the DPR RI. Alternatively, candidate pairs can be endorsed by political parties or coalitions of political parties that participated in the 2019 Election with a total of at least 34,992,703 valid votes (Ant/TJT).
