JAKARTA, JAKTIMES.COM– The Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub DKI Jakarta) is currently developing an electronic parking system based on a mobile app called JakParkir as part of efforts to better manage parking in the capital.

“This app allows the public to plan their parking via smartphone.”

The program is expected to improve the efficiency of parking space use and reduce traffic congestion caused by illegal parking.

The JakParkir Appr system enables users to search for the nearest available parking slot, book a spot before arrival, and make payments directly through e-wallets or QRIS. In addition, users will receive notifications about their parking time.

Head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, said that JakParkir is part of Jakarta’s broader vision to become a digital city. It is also a strategic step to curb illegal parking, optimize on-street parking areas, and reduce traffic in areas with high vehicle density.

“As part of the grand design, the public can plan their parking via their phones. Later, the booking feature will be available at all designated points. We want Jakarta residents to plan their parking location before heading out, even if it’s on-street parking,” he said on Monday (August 4).

Existing parking attendants who previously worked with cash payments are still involved in the new system, now serving as handheld device operators.

The JakParkir app implements progressive parking fees based on duration. Motorcycles are charged Rp2,000 per hour, while cars are charged Rp5,000 per hour.

Currently, JakParkir is still in its trial phase at two road sections: Jalan Pegambiran and Jalan Cikini Raya.

Looking ahead, the Jakarta Transportation Agency targets full implementation across 244 road sections in the capital by 2027.

“Dishub hopes Jakarta residents will begin adopting this digital system and actively participate in the city’s transformation toward a more modern, transparent, and efficient traffic management system,” he concluded (Wan).
