JAKARTA, JAKTIMES.COM – Speaker of the DPR RI, Puan Maharani, has finally spoken up in response to the large protest held in front of the DPR/MPR RI Building on Monday (Aug 25, 2025).
The PDIP politician stressed that the DPR is open to accommodating all aspirations voiced by the people.
“Let us respect each other in expressing aspirations. All inputs will be discussed for future improvements,” Puan told journalists after a meeting in Senayan.
Puan also admitted that the DPR’s performance still requires many improvements. She noted that public criticism is an important part of strengthening democracy.
“We ask for input from the people so that together we can build the nation and the state,” Puan said.
The August 25 protest in Senayan, which turned chaotic, was triggered by controversy over salary and housing allowances for DPR members. Nevertheless, Puan emphasized that the legislature remains committed to listening to the voice of the people. (Wan)
