JAKARTA, JAKTIMES.COM – The capital’s sky roared with pride on Sunday (August 17, 2025). The thunderous sound of fighter jets and Air Force helicopters filled the air above Merdeka Palace, delivering a spectacular aerial performance during the sacred Proclamation Ceremony of Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day.
Representative of the aerial demonstration team, Lt. Col. Pnb Indra Alexander Yosef Lesi, said this year’s show was particularly special. Before the ceremony began, a helicopter carrying a giant flag measuring 72 square meters, suspended from a 50-meter rope, flew across the palace, opening the grandeur of the performance.
The most anticipated moment arrived when the Jupiter Aerobatic Team showcased its signature maneuver, the “Merah Putih Pass.” Trails of red and white smoke streaked across Jakarta’s blue sky, forming the visual of the national flag. Both spectators on site and those watching the live broadcast were left in awe, as the display reinforced Indonesia’s unity from Sabang to Merauke.
Adding to the thrill, eight high-speed passes by fighter jets echoed through the sky, their roaring engines symbolizing the strength of Indonesia’s Air Force at this 80th milestone of independence.
To conclude, 12 helicopters flew in formation, proudly carrying the giant Red-and-White flag along with a banner of the “80 Years of Indonesia” logo.
