JAKARTA, JAKTIMES.COM – The Ambassador of Algeria to Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, and ASEAN, Abdelouahab Osmane, stated that his country is working to elevate its relations with ASEAN to the level of a Sectoral Dialogue Partnership.
“In line with its principles, Algeria is striving to enhance its relations with ASEAN to the level of a Sectoral Dialogue Partnership, while continuing to build ties with other nations based on mutual respect and non-interference in domestic affairs,” Ambassador Osmane said during his remarks at the celebration of Algeria’s National Day at Hotel Indonesia, Jakarta, on Monday (November 3, 2025).
Ambassador Osmane explained that strengthening relations between Algeria and ASEAN will cover various strategic sectors, particularly investment, trade, and economic cooperation. He emphasized that such collaboration is essential to expand connectivity between North Africa and Southeast Asia.
“Algeria and Indonesia have shared a long-standing diplomatic relationship since 1963. Now is the time to move further and deepen concrete partnerships in the economic sector,” he noted.

In October 2025, Indonesia’s Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, Muhammad Anis Matta, made an official visit to Algeria. According to Ambassador Osmane, the visit marked an important step in reinforcing bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
“In the coming months, we expect high-level visits from both sides, particularly within the framework of the Joint Commission for Economic and Technical Cooperation and Political Consultation,” he added.
Beyond government-level cooperation, the ambassador highlighted growing business-to-business engagement between the two nations. He revealed that Indonesian companies have shown increasing interest in investing in Algeria, while Algeria sees Indonesia as a key economic partner in sectors such as industry, energy, and trade.
The National Day celebration was attended by Minister of Investment and Downstreaming as well as Danantara CEO Rosan Roeslani, Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochamad Irfan Yusuf, and senior statesman Alwi Shihab.
Also present were ambassadors from friendly nations including Saudi Arabia, Sudan, and Iran, as well as representatives from several media outlets, such as Antara, RRI, IndonesiaAlyoum.com, Indonesiawindow.com, Terkini.com, Kabar.id, Jaktimes.com, CNN Indonesia, and MediaJakarta.com.
With diplomatic relations continuing to grow, Algeria’s move to deepen engagement with ASEAN is seen as part of a broader effort to expand its global network in the Asia-Pacific region while creating new opportunities in cross-continental trade and investment (Marwan)
