JAKARTA, JAKTIMES.COM- The Jakarta Provincial Government has implemented traffic engineering management on 29 road segments to ensure the smooth implementation of the 43rd ASEAN Summit, which will take place from September 5th to 7th, 2023, in Jakarta.
This policy aims not only to ensure the success of the event but also to provide a safe and comfortable environment for the ASEAN Summit delegates.
Syafrin Liputo, the Head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency, mentioned that during the ASEAN Summit, which includes side events from September 2nd to 4th and the main event from September 5th to 7th, delegates will stay at 18 hotels in Jakarta and participate in activities at five locations: the Presidential Palace, St. Regis Hotel, ASEAN Secretariat Office, Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), and Plataran Hutan Kota Gelora Bung Karno (GBK). To facilitate this, the transportation agency has implemented traffic engineering management on road segments that will be used by the ASEAN Summit delegates.
The traffic engineering management measures include situational road closures while the delegate’s vehicles pass through. Some roads will be closed for two hours.
“For example, if the delegates depart at 7:00 AM, the road will be closed from 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM. Therefore, we advise travelers to avoid roads around the ASEAN Summit locations and follow the alternative routes we have prepared,” said Syafrin at the Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (August 23).
Syafrin listed the 29 road segments that will be affected, including Jenderal Sudirman Road, M.H. Thamrin Road, Gatot Subroto Road, H.R. Rasuna Said Road, Imam Bonjol Road, H.O.S. Cokroaminoto Road, Galunggung Road, R.M. Margono Djojohadikoesoemo Road, K.H. Mas Mansyur Road, and Karet Pasar Baru Timur 5 Road.
Furthermore, the alternative routes provided for the ASEAN Summit events at St. Regis Hotel on Saturday (September 2) at 9:00 AM and Sunday (September 3) at 10:00 AM include South (Cipete) to West (Slipi) or North (Monas) traffic, which can use Kyai Maja Street-Kebayoran Baru Street-Arteri Pondok Indah Street-U-turn in front of Gandaria City-Teuku Nyak Arief Street-Tentara Pelajar Street, and so on.
Alternate routes are also provided for other events at various locations throughout the ASEAN Summit period.
Syafrin emphasized that during the ASEAN Summit, the public is encouraged to use public transportation to avoid high traffic density and congestion. The Jakarta government has also planned to increase the schedules of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and keep Transjakarta services operating normally.
“We encourage the public to use public transportation during the ASEAN Summit. The use of private vehicles will cause high traffic density and congestion. We hope this situation doesn’t occur as we are welcoming foreign guests, and we expect everything to run smoothly,” stated Syafrin (Wan)
