JAKARTA, JAKTIMES.COM- Amidst the presence of tens of thousands of volunteers and supporters from various political parties, presidential and vice presidential candidates Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar (AMIN) of the Coalition for Change officially registered with the General Election Commission (KPU) on Thursday morning in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The pair, Anies and Imin, arrived at the KPU office around 9:30 AM, wearing matching white shirts and black hats. They arrived in a Land Rover with an open roof.
The crowd eagerly shook hands and captured moments with Anies and Cak Imin at the KPU office. The street in front of the KPU building was even closed to the public due to the influx of volunteers and sympathizers of Anies and Cak Imin.
They subsequently submitted the necessary documents to be designated as presidential and vice presidential candidates by the KPU. Representatives from the supporting coalition parties of Anies-Cak Imin symbolically handed over the documents to KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy’ari.
Following the symbolic handover, Anies and Cak Imin posed for photos with Hasyim while holding the registration documents bearing the label “AMIN.”
In his address, Anies explained that they initially planned to register at 8:00 AM but were delayed due to traffic. He expressed gratitude to the entire KPU team and everyone involved in preparing for the registration.
“We hope that as we move forward, we receive guidance. We believe that under the leadership of you, the mothers and fathers of the elections, the election can be conducted honestly, fairly, and credibly in front of the whole of Indonesia,” said Anies on Thursday, 19th of October, 2023.
Anies also emphasized that this is a significant mission that they are embarking on, with the hope of contributing to the welfare of the nation and our country.
“This is a great mission that we carry. I believe that everyone working here also feels the weight of this great mission. Hopefully, we are granted ease in carrying out this significant mandate. Thank you for the warm welcome this morning. We hope this is a good start for the journey toward the betterment of our nation,” Anies said in his speech.
Anies and Cak Imin visited the KPU office after stopping at the offices of the coalition parties, namely PKS, PKB, and NasDem, arriving as a group to accompany the registration process.
Earlier, Chairman of the Advisory Board of PKS, Dr. Salim Segaf Al Jufri, bid farewell to the presidential and vice presidential candidates Anies-Muhaimin and asked the public to pray for their trustworthiness in carrying out the responsibilities given to them.
“We beseech Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala in this bright morning. The rising sun is a sign of victory for the presidential and vice presidential candidates of the Republic of Indonesia, Anies-Muhaimin. May they become leaders who love all components of the nation, regardless of their ethnicity, language, or place of residence. Insha’Allah, they are those who fear God and love the nation and all its people,” Dr. Salim said at the PKS DPTP office in Jakarta.
Shortly after the registration document submission for presidential and vice presidential candidates, Anies held a press conference in front of the KPU office, where he answered various questions from reporters and the media.
“All of us involved in this electoral process should maintain an atmosphere of unity and togetherness. Our thoughts and ideas may differ, but we are, in essence, one nation, one country, and with one goal. That is what we want to preserve together,” he explained.
Anies also elaborated on his vision of change, promising improvements for Indonesian families. He aims to make basic necessities more affordable and ensure prosperity for farmers, livestock breeders, and fishermen.
